The atlas is bound in a hardback, canvas binder, and has 68 leaves(pages of maps; including title page and index). This would not have been an atlas that was produced for the general public. As such, there are very, very few in existence. I know of only one other, in the public domain; it is housed in the National Library of Australia.
The atlas measures 9\" x 15\". The maps themselves measure approximately 23cm x 37cm.
Condition report: The atlas is in very good condition. The canvas covering/book binding is ever so slightly discolored. The pages of the atlasare very sound, with no tears, and only age-appropriate toning to the maps.
The atlas is housed in a fine,antique walnut case, which measures 12\" x 18\".
It was prepared by George S. Brockway, Civil Engineer & Land Surveyor, West Palm Beach, Florida.
The atlas dates to 1935 (date of the \"1935 high water line\", indicated in the atlas).
As a personal aside: It almost goes without saying, that these properties surveyed therein, belonged to some of the wealthiest, most influential families in the United States. A virtual Who\'s Who of the society pages of the United States. From Joseph Kennedy to Marjorie Post Davies to various members of the Phipps family...and many, many other movers and shakers of the time.
That section of real estate along Ocean Boulevard is today, in 2015, no less prominent in terms of the distinguished families that livealong that storied couple of miles of America\'s most desired oceanfront property.
And, in my opinion, this atlas probably sits in very few, if any,of those palatial estates and charming bungalow compounds. As such, it would surely be a showcase. \"statement piece\", prominently displayed in the library, or central foyer, ofany of the Ocean Boulevard mansions.
Also worth considering: due to its extreme scarcity, this atlas is sure to be a sound investment. Just like they are \"not making any more\" of that oceanfront property, nor are they making any more of these atlases...which are a true snapshot in time.
To protect the proprietary interest of the new owner of this atlas, I specifically took angled, less than ideal photographs of the atlas...so that it would be difficult to reproduce.
