We are pleased to offer for sale a fabulous and scarce melon shaped teapot in French sterling silver

crafted by Francois Debain who was the first of the Debain silversmiths and the Debain family patriarch.

Francois Debainwas active during the period 1847-1864 in Paris.


The melon shaped teapot is adorned by swirls and scrolls and is topped with an ornate finial of leaves,

berries and fruit. It features a desirable sterling silver handleand 2 blank cartouches...meaning without monograms.

The teapot alsopossesses 4 attractive,raised sterling silver legs with sturdy feet.


The teapot bears the French Minerva First Standard assay mark thatdenotes .950 sterling silver

composition. It also bears the maker\'s mark for Francois Debain (2 men in a row boat)...circa 1850.


Theteapot measures approximately 6\" in height. The length is approximately 10.1/2\" from one extreme to another.

The weight in .950 French sterling is 554grams.


The sterling handle is firmly attached to the body, but does have some play. Each cartouche

has an indentation that does not detract from the appeal and function of the teapot.


This is an exceptional teapot style that will embellish the finest table.It displays beautifully.
