Just unpacked from our 50-yearcollection we are dispersing for our retirement, this magnificent piece is notonly beautifully carved of precious wood, but the configuration is extraordinaryand meant to display a collector\'s treasures, magnifying their importance.Please enlarge and examine the details of all the hand carving and note thesubtlety of the impeccable fine work of a master.
The color is somewherebetween the two colors reflected in the photographs, light and conditions beingwhat they are they always seem to vary greatly. The side carvings of the upperpanels are again subtle and splendidly done. Master work by Chinese artisans isgenerally confined to such treasures as these; it is far easier to carveprofusely. Please note that this piece came from our main residence up northand has neither been cleaned nor polished. We never overdid any of ourartifacts with polishes. In our younger years we used mineral oil, which takesan abundance of elbow grease.
