Circa approximately 1910, this EXCEPTIONAL EXAMPLE of an antique tin lithograph toy is a DELIGHT to be hold, and after over 100 years is still in MINTY CONDITION, with beautiful color lithographing and very little wear, housed it\'s ORIGINAL BOX----------whether a collector of ANTIQUETOYS or just wanting that perfect display piece for ANTIQUE DOLLS, you willlove this hard to find UNIQUE NOVELTY!
The toy is represented in the form of a CLIMBING MONKEY named \"Tom\", measuring 8\" tall to the top of his hat to the end of his tail, and is DELIGHTFULLY LITHOGRAPHED in vibrant colors of green, red and yellow, wearing a whimsical outfit of coat tails, hat and vest! Lehmann Toys originated in Germany in the late 1800\'s and were renowned for their gorgeous and affordable lithograph toys that were mechanical, fun loving and entertaining, and also bright in colors to attract the young collector! This particular toy has moving arms and legs, and as the monkey hangs by both arms and legs from a string would work by pulling the string at both ends simultaneously so the monkey would appear to \"climb\" up and down the string! We are no experts on antique toys, but we think it is possible the string on this monkey was replaced at some point, and needs to be attached correctly so the monkey climbs on the string correctly; it would be an easy fix for a toy collector so we will leave it up to its new owner should they decide to restring him!
The monkey is marked on his hat \"TOM\" with the letters \"385\", and \"Made in Germany\" on one side of his vest with the name of the manufacturer \"Lehmann\" and the classic \"E\" within a bell insignia mark! With the exception of a few scrape marks and slight overall age wear to the toy, it is in overall EXCELLENT CONDITION; many times these toys have lost their vibrant colors and rusted over the years, but this particular piece is a FABULOUS EXAMPLE and will be a welcome addition to the most SEASONED COLLECTOR of antique tin toys!
The original box is a WORK OF ART in of itself, with nostalgic lithographing on the front paper label depicting an adorable little boy playing with the toy monkey that is housed inside, and has the name of the toy as well as manufacturer and place of origin printed on the lid as well! The box measures 8 1/4\" long by 3 1/2\" wide and is 1 3/4\" high including it\'s lid, with minimal wear-------a very CHARMING PRESENTATION and hard to find with the original toy!
