Description:

A fine antique Chinese Cantonese embroidered silk and gilt painted lacquered fan, made for the European market and dating to the mid to late 19th Century.

The silk fan is beautifully embroidered in pastel silks with birds and insects on a blossoming branch. The guard sticks are profusely decorated with gold gilt on black lacquer, the central sticks also painted in gold gilt with further floral and fauna detail.

The fine detail of both the embroidery and gilt painted sticks is replicated on both sides.

Condition:

In good condition with only one split to the silk, and some very light wear to the gold gilt on the guard sticks. Please see the images provided which complement this description.
