FINE ANTIQUE HAND CARVED LARGE BURL WOODBIRD

Up for sale is a fine large antiqueburl wood carving of a bird, possibly acrane or an eagle.The birdis carved from a burl wood knot which issmooth on the bird\'s chestand knotty on the rest of its body.One branch has been used for the head, beak and neck and another branch for the tail. The body is all gnarled which almost looks like the bird\'s feathers. The base also has extensive detail and resemblesastand of rocks. The bird is attached to the base with what looks like a large screw. The glass eyes are dark brown and it seems like he is looking at you which causes an overall effect that is very charming and quitebeautiful.Unfortunately, the piece is not signed but it is well made andvery heavy. It was purchased at an estate sale many years ago so I really am not sure of its age or origin. My research suggests that it may be a Chinese piece but I am not certain. It is in very good condition withbeautiful old patina to the wood. A few minor age cracks and linesconsistent with normal age wear.
