A fine old genuine hand carved Northwest Coast Haida Indian argillite totem pole attributed to master Haida Carver Arthur Moody (1885-1967) circa 1930. Arthur Moody was was the chief of the Tanu wolf clan and resided in the village of Skidegate. He came from a family of master carvers. He signed some of his later works which help to identify his unsigned carvings. This excellent well carved totem pole features a plump frog on the top followed by a Raven and a seated bear at the bottom. I really like the unusual frog imagery on the top of this totem. The totem stands 6 1/4\" tall with a rectangular base measuring 2 1/8\" x 1 1/2\" and is in very good condition for its age with no noted damages. The totem is fully guaranteed to be 100 % real argillite, hand carved and old . Argillite is the slate black rock that is only found in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia and all known reserves are the sole and closely guarded property of the Haida tribe.
