framed: 41cm x 49.5cmVery fine quality 18th century European Old Master oil painting on wood panel. The work is most likely Austrian in authorship with strong influence from the painter, Franz de Paul Ferg (1689-1740). The subject depicted recounts the story of the Jewish heroine Esther, who appeared before King Ahasuerus to plead for her people, breaking with court etiquette and risking death. She fainted in the king’s presence, but her request found favor. Condition report:
