Click to View Image Album FINE Japanese Five-Case Gold Lacquer Inro, Circa 19th Century. Six section inro decorated in a continuous rainy landscape scene with three figures overlooking the sea. The landscape includes an large long needle pine tree, rolling hills, rocks and clouds. The three figures are produced in shakudo, copper and gold and are applied to the lacquer surface. the clouds, hills and rocks are decorated with tiny gold square inlays (kirigane). The risers and compartments of each section are covered with nashiji lacquer. An old collection label remains on the bottom of the bottom section.

Length: 9.0 cm (3.5 in)

Width: 4.7 cm (1.9 in)

Condition: Some losses to tiny gold square inlays (kirigane). Loss of copper foot of squatting figure on bottom section. Small 3mm loss to handle of umbrella. One 9mm chip to himotoshi at corner of top section. Old repair to compartment floor (sokoita) of second section from top. Numerous small chips and wear to rims (ikake) the largest measuring approximately 1cm and the smallest less than 1mm in size. Light wear and scratches to gold lacquer and nashiji lacquer on risers (tachiagari). PLEASE VIEW PHOTOS BELOW.
