A very fine exceptionally large early Northwest Coast Nuu-chah-nulth Makah lidded basketry covered wine bottle dating from the early to mid 1900\'s. The basket is very finely woven from split cedar bark and natural dyed bear grasses to produce the complex intricate designs that encircle the periphery and lid . The designs are absolutely amazing featuring whales, canoe with hunters, canoes chasing whales, plus five ducks in purple, yellow, and green . Note the complex shape featuring bulging sides and shouldered rim .The sheer large size of this basket makes it extra special and rare and evident of master weavers work. Many of these large baskets were made as native wedding and potlatch gifts. The basket measures an amazingly huge 13 1/4\" tall x 7\" in max diameter and is in excellent condition with no splits, damages or repairs noted, the dyes have faded slightly over its long life which is common and expected for a basket of this age . This museum quality basket makes an excellent display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
