Fine Large Old Northwest Coast Tlingit Cedar Totem Pole Circa 1920 For Sale


Afine large old Northwest Coast Tlingit hand carved and painted cedar totem poledating from the early 1900's.The totem is a model of the famousvillage totem known as the " Raven totem pole" that was erected in Ketchikan in 1899. The name stems from mythology that surrounds the mythological Raven and the creation stories. The totem is painted in great old original pigments of green,red, blue and black and is well carved with great details. The totem stands 12" tall with a great stepped base measuring 3 3/4' x 3 1/2" and is in good condition with a repair noted to raven's beak at the top and some paint wear as expected with great age and handling.
