A fine large old Northwest Coast Nootka Nuu-chah-nulth hand carved and painted red cedar model totem dating from the very early 1900\'s. The totem would have been executed by a carver working on Vancouver Island . The totem features great well carved imagery featuring raven, ascending frog , grinning face, whale and bear at the bottom. I really like the way the artist used the paint on this pole to add charm, like the speckled pattern on the bottom creature and the smiling face in middle adds just awesome charm to this great early totem. The totem is painted in awesome old and original paints of green, red and black . The totem stands a very respectable 19 5/8\" tall with a base measuring 3 7/8\" x 3 3/4\" and is very good original condition with some normal paint wear and nice aged patina associated with age and careful handling.
