Here\'s a wonderful old bell shaped native Alaska basket with fantastic rare bead work in the shape of what looks like bird feet. This amazing grass basket has a very unusual shape in the form of a bell, made circa 1900 or possibly earlier. It is in very good condition for its age, a nice size, the lid fits loosely and the knob at the top is loose to the touch so needs to be opened carefully though the stitch work appears to be in tact. There are areas of missing and frayed stitches around the base of the lid which is typical for this type of grass and the age of the basket. It is very rotund and leans slightly. The bead work is delightful! It is a wonderful basket to display and enjoy. Really belongs in a museum. Measures approx. 9 inches tall, approx 8 1/2 inches across the bottom of the base, and has a circumference of approx. 27 inches around. Please see all photos for condition.
