Description:

An exquisitely carved pair of antique French black oyster shells, the inner mother of pearl surfaces skillfully worked by the same hand to depict an oyster fisherman and fisherwoman, each carrying nets, and standing on a rocky sea shore.

The two pieces are named for the coastal French harbour town of \'Le Havre\', and would have been purchased as a souvenir of that location in the late 19th century. Remnants of paper labels are attached to the back of each piece.

Height: 16.4 cm, or 6 1/2 inches

Width: 14.6 cm, or 5 3/4 inch

Condition:

In good antique condition, without damage or restoration, but with age related wear, the fisherman shell with a scar to the right side from its original opening. Please see the images provided which complement this description.
