FINE RARE OLD NORTHWEST COAST NOOTKA NUU-CHAH-NULTH INDIAN CEDAR TOTEM C1910 #1:

A fine rare early Northwest Coast Nootka Nuu-chah-nulth hand carved and painted red cedar model totem dating from the very early 1900\'s. This is one of two totems that are most likely by the same carver that we\'re currently listing. The totem features wonderful imagery featuring a raven, grimacing creature and a seated bear is painted in great old and original pigments of red, black ,yellow and green . The totem stands 11\" tall on tree branch base measuring 2 1/2\" x 2\" is in very good original condition with some normal wear and patina associated with great age. A nearly identical totem by the same maker appears in an early Ye Olde curiosity shop photo dated 1915. Please see illustration 7.5 on page 173 of Kate Duncan\'s book \"1001 Curios Things\".
