A very fine rare pair of old Northwest Coast Tsimshian Indian painted dance paddles dating from the early 1900\'s. These yellow cedar paddles feature expertly painted with striking imagery featuring a Tsimshian Chief dressed in ceremonial attire, a Chilcat robe, apron and leggings and his Chief\'s frontlet. The painting almost has a three dimensional quality! I believe these paddles, though unsigned, are the work of famous Frederick Alexcee (1853-1940). The paddles came from the Dr. Thomas Mandy collection who collected in the 1920\'s and 1930\'s, his personal collection was sold in Vancouver about 15 years ago. This rare pair of figural painted paddles are of museum quality and is being sold with so good luck and happy offerding. The paddles makes a great display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
