Superb Sumida Gawa vase by renowned Japanese artist Inoue Ryosai. This large and impressive vase measures 12\" high and is 6\" in diameter at its widest. It features four well molded children at play on a bridge. They are passing a lantern and appear to be on an adventure. The facial expressions are wonderful as is the detail to their clothing. The vase is unusual in that it features a striking and flambe glaze that drips down from the top mouth. The desirable color palette is outstanding with purple, blue, maroon and forest green picking up the green in the kimonos... The vase is signed with Inoue Ryosai\'s name in kanji characters in a jar shaped cartouche on the reverse. The vase is in excellent condition with the exception of one firing expansion on the wood beneath one of the boy\'s feet and some on the cartouche which is typical with this type of pottery.. see photos.
