BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE SHAHSAVAN TRIBAL \"JIJIM\" or \"JAJIM\" FLAT-WEAVE COVER, south of the Caucasus Mountainsinthe province of Azerbaijan,last quarter of the19th century, and coming inexcellent originalcondition for the collector.The exact size:4\'-0\" x 6\'-7\" (122 x 201cm). WOW = a riot of rich color and design with very fine wool quality and rich natural dyes derived from organic plant sources.Just a very lovely antique tribal flat-weavecoverconsisting ofsix(6) narrowjajim strips sewn together. Structurally, each jijim strip was woven on a small, narrow loomin a warp-faced plain weave technique then butt-seamed together to create a decorative and functional cover for personal use. This weaving has survived in a near-perfect state of preservationandit hasbeen lovinglytaken care ofby its previous owners for over a long period ever since it wasinitially woven. Thereare just a couple very small restoredpuncture holesfrom past ethnographic age use that keeps this piece from being called \"mint\" condition (see photo 10 for the largest repair, about 1/2\" x 3/4\" or 1.5 x 2cm).This fine antique Shahsavan tribal folk art textile relic is clean and collection ready.
