Superb Quality, Antique Turkish Ottoman Qalamdan Divit or travelling writing set - Turkey or Syria, circa 1870.
The brass body is SUPERBLY decorated in Mamluk Damascene style with a highly intricate silver wire overlay creating elaborate Calligraphy and geometric designs - with added red copper wire for contrast and beauty.
Work quality is exceptional and way more intricate than ordinary damascened works from the 20th century, usually offered on the market.
The entire surface of the pen case and inkwell are covered with the intricate design - inkwell with a hinged, shell-form lid showing residue of ink inside - when I opened the crown-decorated pen-case lid, I found 3 old cane-pens with usage signs - great, unusual addition to the piece.
Under the inkwell there is an engraved Islamic date that translates to 1729 - actual date is about 1870.
Excellent condition with no dings or dents, no repairs or losses, practically flawless - please view detailed pictures.
It measures 25 cm long x 4.5 cm tall at the inkwell.
