Fab 40s/50s Vtg Bonwit Teller~Seymour Fox~Black Cashmere Wool Coat w/Fur Collar
DESCRIPTION

My store has many clothing categories, including Vintage and Couture/High-End Designers. Items added almost daily. Please check in from time to time.

CHECK DETAILS BELOW FOR FREE SHIPPING ON ADDITIONAL vintage coat by couture designer SEYMOUR FOX, sold at exclusive BONWIT TELLER. Historical information given below. Will fit a range of sizes. I wear a medium, seems like it could fit a bit smaller or larger, even a petite, as the sleeves are bracelet-length. Gorgeous black, double-breasted, welt-pockets, fully lined in satin, with real fur collar. My best guess for fabric content would be a cashmere/wool blend. It\'s very soft, with a subtle fur nap. I hope my many photos will be helpful. Has a side seam \"National Recovery Board\" label. I stitched/tacked down the Bonwit Teller and Seymour Fox labels. I believe to be 50s/60s vintage, but could be earlier. In excellent vintage (laid flat)

BONWIT TELLER:

Bonwit Teller was a high quality ladies apparel store, founded by Paul J. Bonwit (1862-1939). Born in Germany, Bonwit moved to the US in 1883, working in New York and Nebraska before returning to New York and joining Rothschild & Company. By 1897, he became partners with Edmund D. Teller and by 1911 their store was located on 5th Avenue.

In the 1920s and 1930s they carried French models, including duplicates of Lanvin, Patou, Vionnet and Maggy Rouff, custom mades, and American-made garments including designs by Nettie Rosenstein. They were noted for the quality of their merchandise and the salaries they paid.

SEYMOUR FOX:

Seymour Fox was one of the great New York suit and coat companies of the mid 20th century. They were in business at least from the 1920s, and closed in the 1970s.

NATIONAL RECOVERY BOARD:

The National Recovery Board was brought into effect in 1934, as part of the New Deal. The Coat and Suit Industry National Recovery Board was a trade organization that came about in order to assure that garments were made in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards. The label assured consumers that the garment was made by workers who were not working excessive hours and who were being paid a fair hourly wage. This label is seen from the mid-1930s into the 1960s.
