Fab Pre-Revolution Russian Gilt Silver & Enamel Spoon by Gustav Klingert

Presented is a fabulous quality Russian pre-revolution gilt silver and enamel spoon. This spoon dates to circa 1889-1898, and was made by Gustav Klingert. The back of the bowl of the spoon is richly decorated with a floral design in dark blue, light blue, white, and red. The floral design is beautifully detailed, with fine ropetwist texture borders in gilt silver between all the colors of enamel and a richly textured finish to the gilt silver background. The handle is done in a classical twist form, with further enamel decoration at the terminal and at the midpoint.

The spoon is hallmarked with the Russian 84 zolotnik mark for 875 purity silver, the city mark for Moscow, the assay mark for Lev Fridrikhovitch Oleks, with a partially worn assay date. Lev Fridrikhovitch Oleks was an assay master from circa 1889-1898, so that is the date range for the piece. The maker\'s mark is for Gustav Klingert.

This spoon is in great overall condition. The enamel has only the most minor of flakes in a couple of spots, nothing that is easy to notice, only with close, careful inspection under strong light. The enamel to the back of the bowl in particular looks pristine. There are no splits, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

This piece is about 6 1/4 inches long.
