This magnificent large 27\" tall antique French bisque shoulder head doll was produced in France, around 1915. She is marked, \"Depose, Fabrication Francaise (in a rectangular box), Favorite No. 7, AL & Cie, Limoges, Ed Tasson.\" This is a very special doll produced by the A. Lanternier & Cie porcelain factory in Limoges, France. She has beautifully painted, individually multi-stroked, brown eyebrows, numerous long black painted eyelashes that surround her almond-cut, originally set, blue glass paperweight eyes, red tear ducts, deeply sculpted nostrils with red interior dots, and red lips on her open mouth showing 4 upper teeth cut into the bisque. She has pierced ears, original red felt inside her head behind her open lips, and an old printed sticker that reads, \"Merritt\'s Antiques, Inc., BH 9287, Douglassville, PA.\" This indicates the doll probably once stood in the famous, now closed, Mary Merritt\'s Doll Museum. The shoulder head is in good condition with no chips, breaks or hairlines. She has a newer handmade cork pate and wears what appears to be her original antique handsewn human hair wig in an attractive chestnut brown color that parts down the middle with long wavy curls. The bisque shoulder head is glued inside the scalloped cut edge of her leather body. The body has elbow gussets with original metal pin \"ne ultra plus\" jointing at the hips and knees. She has lower bisque arms and fingers. Her leather arms are stitched to her shoulders creating floppy joints. The doll wears an unusual elastic garter around her waist and down the sides of her legs which hold up her long silk stockings. We have seen this same type of garment on several other dolls, so we believe it to be original. We have not removed her garter or stockings but we do feel some weakness at her left knee. The doll wears wonderful antique brown and black oilcloth shoes on her feet. They are marked with the number 9 on the soles. Her fabulous dress is made entirely of lace with a full lining made of chiffon. The construction is unique with long sleeves having lace gathered up into draping scallops at the cuffs. A lace shawl scarf is attached to one side of the neckline and drapes around the other side. A pointed apron of lace hangs from the center bodice with loose ends that tie in back. A lace overskirt extends to within several inches of an underskirt trimmed at the hem with matching lace. Pale pink ribbon roses are used in the decorative trim outlining the lace apron on the bodice. It is used again on the cuffs of the sleeves. The dress is worn over a newer pale peach cotton full slip that is woven in a check pattern with vertical rows of what resembles satin ribbon that is actually woven in the fabric. On her head is a lovely antique ecru lace bonnet lined in silk that matches her dress beautifully. Her jewelry includes a matched set of silver and crystal bead drop earrings and matching necklace with a pressed silver rose pendant. Lovely French shoulderhead doll that would make a fabulous statement to your doll collection in an unusually large size for this mold. [DL-2358]
