Fabulous Solid Silver Edwardian Card Case Birmingham 1909 John Rose:

This is a wonderful, substantial solid silver Edwardian card case. It has an attractive embossed floral decoration throughout, typical of the Art Nouveau period of design, during which it was made. It feels very tactile to hold and is made from a good gauge of silver. There is an engraved cartouche on the front containing entwined initials which probably belong to the original owner.

Condition is excellent. There are no splits or repairs, just the usual light surface marks which are commensurate with a piece of silver which is 108 years old. There is a tiny knock on one of the corners but it is insignificant and is lost within the scalloped border.The hinge is strong and the lid closes with a nice tight fit and has no play. The case has retained its original gilded interior which shows that it has had hardly any use over the years. It is very desirable and would compliment any collection. A wonderful example. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.

Hallmarks are crisp, showing Birmingham 1909, the maker being John Rose. Established in 1902, the business operated from premises in Hockley Street, Birmingham. They were renowned for the production of cases such as cigarette cases, vesta cases and card cases, amongst other small items. The business survived through to the 1970\'s.

The case measures 9cm x 6.5cm and weighs a healthy 74g.
