Here is a really fabulous large victorian quality gold pinchbeck, hair mourning brooch. The brooch is large and measures one & a half inches by one & threequarter inches and is all set in a quality yellow gold coloured metal which is such good quality and looks to be real pinchbeck, but i havent tested, but either way real quality. The brooch is very typical victorian with ornate scrollwork around the border & in the centre is a locket compartment, which is inset with light coloured hair and then covered by a glass panel. The brooch has a pin and Cclasp working well, although the pin is a replacement & also a bail for attatching a safety chain & nicely on the back is enscribed, john bullock, died, march 16th. 1849, aged 36, and dates to the mid victorian period and this really is a quality origional mourning brooch. Mourning brooches became very popular in the victorian era & some of them have very elaborate workmanship, but although this one is quite plain, its nice to know who its enscribed to & history, This really is a lovely victorian brooch in very good origional complete condition and a lovely collectable example of these.
