Amazing Civil War Photo!
Yes, this photo was taken after the Battle of Gettysburg. But, there is much controversy surrounding it!
This is the disputed photo taken by Alexander Gardner titled "The Home of a Rebel Sharpshooter." Many historians and Civil War experts claim this photo was probably staged by Gardner to make the photo more fascinating, using the same fallen soldier as he did for another photo he took the same day. He would have had to drag the body some 40 yards to this location to take this photo. WOW!
(Some evidence historians cite is the weapon seen here. The type of weapon seen in the photograph was not used by sharpshooters. This particular firearm is seen in a number of Gardner's scenes at Gettysburg and probably was the photographer's prop.)
