This is a leaf of early printing from the first edition of the folio edition of the famous King James Bible, Book of Numbers Chapters 10 - 11. The Authorized King James Version is an English translation of the Bible begun in 1604 and completed in 1611 by the Church of England at the bequest of King James I. It was conceived at the Hampton Court Conference in response to the perceived problems by the Puritans of the earlier translations .The first edition included schedules unique to the Church of England including, a lectionary for morning and evening prayer. A typographical discrepancy in Ruth 3:15 rendered a pronoun \"He\" instead of \"She\" in that verse in some printings. This caused some of the First Editions to be known by collectors as \"He\" Bibles. This was the third such official translation into English.. Even though it was called the Authorized edition and was effectively unchallenged as the English translation used in Anglican and Protestant churches no evidence exists that it received any ecclesiastical or legislative sanctions. On May 2, 1611 the first of these editions came of the press by the King\'s Printer, Robert Barker at London. The folio sized paper leaf measures 410 x 280 mm. in totality and contains 59-lines of Gothic type printed double column in English. There are ruled boarders with annotations and large historiated letters heading each chapter. .Verso:contains the same amount of lines type & layout. (Darlow & Moule 239) There is a moderate but light damp stain around the edges. .
