This interesting early sheet appears to be a study for aprint or engraving. Stylistically it dates from the late sixteenth or earlyseventeenth century, and could be Flemish or Dutch in origin. The figures in the drawing are similar to figures in works by Jheronimus Bosch and Pieter Brueghel the Elder. The drawing isextensively annotated with inscriptions in Latin. The scene shows a cripple manwith a Flag leading a cart drawn by several horses, on which ride allegoricalfigures with their attributes, including a lute, a music book, a jug, a burningtorch etcetera. Interesting early sheet deserving of more research!
