18th Century Portrait of a Lady, oil on canvas
A young maiden in a rose garden c.1780. The pauses for a moment beside a classical urn with more flowers, and admires a rose in her right hand. The basket contains a multitude of freshly picked flowers and a winged Cupid prepares an arrow.
A very pretty and highly decorative French school work. Executed to a high standard notably through the good drawing and the treatment of the fabrics showing the various folds, the subtle nuances of colour, and how they reflect light.
Held in a good ornate frame in excellent condition.
