A fine quality example of a Georgian Sterling Silver \'Novelty Vinaigrette\' c1820, by the highly regarded firm of Silversmiths Ledsam & Vale(please see the detailed close-upphotographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).

This superb Vinaigrette is formed in the shape of a Ladies Purse Bagbeautifully engraved tocreatethe illusion of embossed leather,capturing all of the detail down to thestitchingat the sides and onthe bottom.The lid opens to reveal a foliate pierced hinged grille withgilt interior and what appears to be the original sponge.

The overall condition of this superb piece is very good (please see photographs), although commensurate with age their is a shallow \'ding\' or \'push\' to the reverse side & the chain that forms the handle isbroken and is held together by cotton (as shown in the fifth photograph) -although this could be repaired quite easily.

The Vinaigrette is properly marked for the period,with hallmarks in the inner lidand on the base of the purse (see pictures 2, 3, &4) withthefollowing:

King\'s profile(Could be George III orGeorge IV, not sure - please seephotographs), Makers Mark - \'L&Co and the Lion Passant mark toindicate Sterling Silver; although neither set of marks has either a dateletter or town mark.

The Vinaigrette is approx\' 18mm high and 20mm at its widest pointand it weighs: 5.5 grams.

In summary, this is a fineexample of a Georgian Sterling Silver \'Novelty Vinaigrette\' c1820, by the highly regarded firm of Silversmiths Ledsam & Vale, which in \'as found\' condition and which would be awonderful addition to any collection.
