Superior Antique Landscape Painting by Illinois Artist: George Colby_dtd 1880. This is one of the finest examples I have seen from this Chicago artist from the late 1880\'s to the early 20thc. The artist, George Colby was know for his mountainous landscapes and wonderfulwater colors. Having exhibited in the National Academy in New York and the Salon in Paris, he was also a life member of the Chicago Art Institute and studied in Paris. At the time of his death in 1922, paintings were being offered at his gallery in the $200-$1,000 range. The size of this prairie scene is 12 x 18 and with the later frame and liner, it is 16 x 21.5. Shows craquelure throughoutand has been lined at some point. Small paint losses near edges. He has captured the skies like few other artists I have seen. A real painter\'s painting andwould make a spectacular addition to any fine American art collection. Thisearly work of his is just outstanding. Help yourself here. Sorry, this is my best price.
