Rare Sterling Silver Collapsible Cup by Sampson Mordan & CoFully Hallmarked London 1899; Weight: 56.8 Grams
This is anextremelyrare \'collapsible cup\' or \'collapsible beaker\' made by the highly respected firm of Sampson Mordan & Co, who are widely regarded as being the very finest manufacturers of small English Silver items during the late Victorian period(please see the detailed close-upphotographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).
This superb Solid Silver antique Collapsible Cup, which weighs 56.8 grams has a diameter of approx\' 4.0cms across the lid. When closed it is approximately 1.4cms high, extending to 3.8cms when it is fully opened with the lid removed.
This finest quality antique Sterling Silver Collapsible Beaker by Sampson Mordan is fully hallmarked as you would expect; it carries a full English Hallmark confirming that it is made from solid Sterling Silver and that it was assayed in London in 1899. It is stamped with either a full or part hallmark, as shown in the detailed photographs provided, in three places: inside the lid; on the bottom section of the beaker; and on the underside of the beaker.
This stunning piece of antique English Silver is in genuinely superb \'as found\' condition; it has no dings and much of the interior gilded finish has survived intact. On close inspection the chain attaching the lid to the base of the beaker needs to be re-attached and one of the internal seams at the base of the beaker has opened, as shown - otherwise it is just sublime.
As expected the exterior has wear and surface scratches, as shown, commensurate with age but this stunning piece would undoubtedly polish up nicely, howeverI will leave that to the purchaser as many silver collectors areunderstandablykeen to personally oversee the cleaning process of their acquisitions.
