The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700\'s and 1800\'s in the Islamic world.The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery.Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand. Finally thesilverand copper is hammered into the carved areas.(M.Khaleeq 2011)
Abeautifulquality tray which I believe was made by the Bezalelschoolof arts in Jerusalem. If you look to the bottom right of the tray you will see a small 5 stripes amphora vase .This is a symbolbelievedto have been used by artists at the Bezalel school. There are no stamps or Bezalelinscriptionsanywhere . Please look at the item and make up your own mind. If you look at similar trays you will see they are notdissimilarto this.
