This high quality pair is made of heavy, finely grained wood showing beautiful age and use patina.
The entire surface on top and sides is inlayed with colorful mother-of-pearl plaques which are cut and inlayed in elaborate geometric designs the wood is also inlayed with silver wire and brass pins.
The top straps, holding the foot are made of leather embroidered with metallic wire.
The quality of the Nalin testified as to the standing of its wearer in thehierarchy of society and his or hers socio-economicstatus - most of the ones I have seen are decorated with plain triangular inlays - this pair was worn by a person of standing in Ottoman society.
The wood and MOP inlays are in a very good condition for the age with mild ware - the foot straps show dark patina and can use a gentle cleaning to bring the pattern out - single, small chip off one rim - please view detailed pictures.
