This is a very special, beautiful antique bowl!
Hand hammered, densely decorated with exotic animals and people with a continuous band of calligraphy at the rim. All of the scenes are upside down, as if the bowl was intended to be seen this way. Exact age is unknown, but appears to be from the 17th or 18th century. I wish I knew more about this piece and what the script reads....
Provenance: This bowl comes directly from the estate of a gentleman who was the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq from 1858-62 and U.S. Ambassador to Algeria from 1965-67. Name and provenance will accompany this bowl.
The bowl measures 6 3/4\" wide and 2 1/4\" tall. It has its original patina and has not been cleaned.
