saleing a remarkably shaped Fauvist tempera and oil landscape painting, of a French urban Environment done in bright contrasted colors. The painting shows early Fauvist influence combined with Modernist forms. The colors are vibrant and well contrasted. We believe this painting is from the French School movement. The painting is also baring signature "Vamick", inscribed in the lower margin, which may point to the French Modernist artist. Indistinctly signed.
Condition: as pictured, aging. Dimensions: 27.1 x 19.1 cm. The painting has a reference number marked on verso and stamp, which in our opinion belong to the previous collections this artwork was part of. Sold as is.
Fauvism, the first twentieth-century movement in modern art, can be seen as an extreme extension of the post-impressionism of Van Gogh combined with the neo-impressionism of Seurat. The influences of these earlier movements inspired Matisee and his followers to reject traditional three-dimensional space and instead use flat areas or patches of colour to create a new pictorial space. Fauvism can also be seen as a form of expressionism in its use of brilliant colors and spontaneous brushwork.
Maurice de Vlaminck was a French painter who along with André Derain and Henri Matisse is considered one of the principal figures in the Fauve movement, a group of modern artists who were united in their use of intense colour. Vlaminck was influenced by the expressive works of Vincent van Gogh. “I heightened all the tones, I transposed in an orchestration of pure colors all the feelings I could grasp,” he once stated. Vlaminck, along with the other Fauve painters, continued the approach established by the Impressionists of rejecting conventional themes and instead representing scenes from everyday life. Rather than depicting stories from mythology, history, or portraying notable figures, his paintings often featured unremarkable cityscapes and landscapes, as well as unknown denizens of Parisian nightlife, all enlivened by his bright, unnatural Fauve palette.
