FINE RARE LARGE OLD NORTHWEST COAST LIDDED MAKAH NUU-CHAH-NULTH BASKET c1900:

A very fine large early Northwest Coast Nuu-chah-nulth Makah Indian lidded round basket dating from the early 1900\'s. The basket is very finely woven with a (26 stitches/ per inch)from split cedar bark and dyed bear grasses to produce the complex intricate designs that encircle the periphery and lid. The design features a very unusual pinwheel and zig zag line designs. The basket measures a nice size measuring 5\" D and stands 3 1/4\" tall and is in very good condition with no splits, or repairs noted, some fading of the vegetable dyes as expected with great age. This museum quality basket makes an excellent display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
