FINE & SOFT. Authentic Antique BALUCH \"Chanteh\" (personal bag), Persian Tribal, 4th quarter of the 19th century, and coming in quite good overall original condition.Exact size, having been opened up for cleaning, is: 16\" x 30\" (41 x 76 cm). This rather old and very lovely, antique Baluch textile relic was made in one continuous effort with a mirror-image design, then folded in half to be made into a chanteh (personal carry bag). Now that the weaving has been opened up for cleaning, it looks like and is the size of a \"balisht\" or \"poshti\" pillow cover. It has an asymmetric knot structure open to the right on natural ivory wool warps and natural brown wool wefts with over 100 kspi. It has a very soft and supple handle to it in the hand due to the high quality of wool used. All of the dyes are natural and are derived from plant sources with a rich emerald green that really shows itself nicely in direct lighting. The five center ivory elements inside each latch-hook field medallion show remnants of multi-colored silk highlights, now heavily oxidized from antique age and past ethnographic use. The overall condition is quite good. Pile is evenly low, but no wear or worn areas. The side over-castings are original and complete and show areas of minor abrasion and one small area of repair. The top and bottom endings are complete with remnants of the original flat-weave end finishes. See all close up photos.
