First edition \"Stones of Venice\" John Ruskin, leather bound, 3 vol, architectur.:
$1500.00

This 3 volume set of \"The Stones of Venice\" by John Ruskin is a first edition published in 1873 by John Wiley and Son, NY. It is leather bound with gilt accents. Theboard covers, the interior paste-downs and flap have matching marbleized Italian papers, and the page ends, tops and bottoms are stained to match. The interior pages are in excellent condition, the leather shows wear in spots, and vol. 2 has a weakness at the top quarter of the front binding (see photo).

\"The Stones of Venice\" along with the \"Seven Lamps of Architecture 1849\" had enormous influence on the gothic revivalstyle in England and well as the Arts and Crafts style that followed. His work influenced the thinking of Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Henry van de Velde.

My great grandfather purchased these volumes from Durkee & Jenkins, Booksellers, Albany, NY. (Small sticker inside Vol 1 cover).
