Thisoriginal hand-painted animation cel of Linus Van Pelt and backgroundpainting of the interior of a home were created in the Bill MelendezStudio during the production of the series of animated films based onthe Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schulz. The background waspossibly repainted, went unused, as a handwritten note on the backreads: \"too (sic) dark and saturated.\" The cel painting wascreated for publicity use; the two originals are nicely matched anddepict Linus, Lucy\'s little brother, in a classic pose, which sincebecame iconic in artist & animation circles, being repaintedinnumerable times. This cel is the rare Melendez Studio original.
Notes: Linus Van Pelt, Lucy\'s little brother, is Charlie Brown\'sbest friend throughout the Peanuts comic strips and films. Thecharacter\'s creator, Charles M. Schulz, has said of the character,\"Linus, my serious side, is the house intellectual, bright,well-informed which, I suppose may contribute to his feelings ofinsecurity.\" He is never without his blue blanket. “He madesucking your thumb and holding a security blanket OK. I think he\'sone of the most original fictional characters of all time—blendingchildish behavior with great wisdom.”
Thoughyoung, Linus is very intelligent, and acts as the strip\'s philosopherand theologian, often quoting the Gospels. He is the only person whobelieves in the Great Pumpkin, although he occasionally temporarilyconvinces other characters the Great Pumpkin is real, only tostubbornly maintain his faith when they lose theirs.
