Francis Godwin (October 20, 1889 – August 5, 1959), better known as FrankGodwin, was an American illustratorand comicstrip artist, notable for his strip Connie and his book illustrations for TreasureIsland, Kidnapped, RobinsonCrusoe, Robin Hood and KingArthur. He also was a prolific editorial and advertising illustrator.

Born in Washington, D.C., Godwin was the son of the WashingtonStar\'s city editor, and in 1905, at age 16, he began as an apprentice onhis father\'s paper.Studying in New York at the Art Students League, Godwin becamefriends with James Montgomery Flagg and two shared astudio together. Godwin was influenced by Flagg and Charles Dana Gibson, and reflections of bothcan be seen in Godwin\'s work.

In1938, Godwin stepped in to replace illustrator Kemp Starrett on writer PaulPowell\'s dailystrip Roy Powers, Eagle Scout (\"the official strip of the BoyScouts of America\") which continued until 1942.Godwin\'s two major strips, seen over three decades, were RustyRiley (1948–59) and Connie (1927–44).

This is the original artwork to a Sunday strip by FrankGodwin of Rusty Riley, from 2-15-1959. Beautiful pen and ink renderingthroughout the art. The art is in excellent condition. Title panel is a stat. Artworkis approx. 24 x16 inches in size.
