Frederick Douglass Memorial Spoon, circa 1895 Abolitionist Freed Slave:
$122.51

Wonderful and beautifully executed spoon memorializing the famed black abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Douglass, 1818-1895, was born into slavery but later escaped to the north in 1838. This spoon, which looks to be silver plated, has a large image of Douglass and chain links up the stem listing all his achievements. The stem reads as follows \"Escaped From Slavery 1838, Nantucket Mass. 1841, 54th-5 Mass. Regiment 1863, Elector At Large 1872, U.S. Marshall D.C. 1877, U.S. Minister To Hayti 1889, Died Washington 1895\". The spoon measures 6\" long and is in excellent condition. Hcasales.com sold an example in their May 2010 sale, lot #62, which realized $1,116.25. This example is equally as nice. Any dark areas were caused by thescanning process. There is no damage or tarnish on the spoon. Satisfaction guaranteed. Free domestic shipping.
