Antique Gilded BRONZE \"Vierge D\'Albert\" Golden Madonna and Child Statue Sculpture on Marble Base, FRENCH, from the early 20th Century. 17 1/2\" tall including base.
The Virgin Mary is depicted standing on the globe, bearing aloft the infant Jesus whose arms are raised in blessing. Mary\'s flowing robes and graceful elongated form show the skilled hand of Roze in the Art Noveau style.
A beautiful piece for home devotion or display.
The plinth beneath the globe is marked \"Vierge D\'Albert\", and the globe has the artist\'s signature \"Albt. Roze\". There is also a foundry mark reading \"EK Paris\" with the E reversed. (See photos).Original Sculpture by French sculptor and artist ALBERT ROZE (1861-1952) is the \"Vierge d\'Albert\" or Virgin of Albert, which stands atop the Basilica of Notre Dame de Brebieres in Albert in the northern department of the Somme in the Picardy region of France. Also known as the \"Golden Virgin\".
Overall very good condition. There is a small loss to the gilding/plating on one of the drapery folds by Mary\'s visible foot and some light scuffs and polishing wear, but no significant issues. Marble base has no chips or cracks. The sculpture fits snugly and securely on the marble base.
