This is one of the earliest sets of GALVANO BRONZE DANTE ALIGHIERI Bookends - Dated 1913, and a mark showing it was made in NY. In addition, they appear to have the initials \"PM\" for Paul Mori (founder of Galvano Bronze Co. whose foundry was based in NYC). Please see photos.
From one of the greatest & oldest American foundry\'s that made bookends at the start of the 20th Century. These bookends are over 100 years old, and date to 1913. They are brightly painted, and the oldest set of bronze clad bookends I\'ve found yet.
Galvano is the forerunner to Pompeian Bronze Works, which came into existence when Galvano Bronze was sold to its employees and renamed at this time. This set also predates the existence of Armor Bronze (which started in the 1920s, and didn\'t manufacture out of NY).
Dante is one of the world\'s greatest poets, philosophers, and thinkers. He departed from writing in Latin to compose his masterpiece \"La Divina Comedia\" in a vernacular Italian still spoken in and around Florence to this day.
Condition: Very good. Original paint. Shows some wear -- to be expected for bookends over 100 years old. One of the bookends has a little less gold paint on Dante\'s face. Please see photos.
