GENERAL FOODS MAXWELL HOUSE HAGADAH PASSOVER SEDER SERVICE VINTAGE BOOKLET 1935:
$64.99

The following informationis all from \"101 Years of the Maxwell House Haggadah\" by Anne Cohen, 2013, available on the infallible Internet. Wording is mine.
This is a heartwarming story of Capitalism Meets Religion. In 1923, an advertising agency convinced Maxwell House Coffee (before it was absorbed by General Foods) to invest in a Jewish advertising campaign. Since coffee at that time was deemed \"not kosher,\" thismust havebeen quite a sales job. However, the agency found an obscure rabbi who would certify that coffee was made from a fruit (kosher) and not a bean (not kosher). Thecampaign continued for thenext ten years, at which time it evolved into this booklet. The booklets were handed out for free (it was supposed to be \"buy a can of coffee, get afree book\" but since the number of books handed out greatly exceeded the number of cans of coffee sold, that rule obviously wasn\'t followed).
By 2006, over 50 million copies had been distributed. One of them, copyrighted in 1935,ended up in my possession somehow. Since none of my ancestors was Jewish and I seriously doubt that most of them ever actually met a Jewish person, I can only speculate that the reason that one of them picked up this book was that it was F-R-E-E. Anything free was a good thing during the Depression.
Anyway, what might catch your attention is that the book is arranged \"backwards\" from what you are probably used to. If you open up thebook to the last page, you\'llseePage 1 \"INTRODUCTION\" on your left, and the back cover (dates of Jewish holidays- 1934 to 1939) on your right. Each page of the service has the English version in the left-hand column, and the Hebrew (I assume) versionin the right-handcolumn. Several pictures are included. I probably don\'t have to tell you that it\'s all in black-and-white.
