I have seen two of these for sale in the past ten years including this one which I wasfortunate enough to purchase. It is 100% genuine and original with no repairs or restoration. It has areas of conservation to stop some of the corrosion from flaking off but the antennae, the complete hilt and the waisted and fluted blade are 100% original. This is the prototype of the famous Roman Gladius short sword carried by theRoman legions during the Republic and Early Empire. This type of sword was carried by the Iberian Celtic mercenaries in the armies of Hannibal during his invasion of Italy. It took 200 years for Spain to be completely dominated by the Romans and the Romans were so impressed by the Iberians that many of them were permitted to become Roman Legionaires.Very very rare and seldom seen for sale at any price. The sword is not red as shown by my flash but it is a reddish black as seen in the second photo. I flashed it to show the details.
