Genuine "billy & Charley" Pewter Pilgrim Badge. Great Story, No Reserve For SaleBILLY AND CHARLEY PEWTER PILGRIMS BADGE
Something you don't see too often. A brass 'Billy and Charley' pilgrim badge produced between 1857 and 1870. These two rogues started to produce their own fake pilgrims badges to satisfy an ever growing demand for Medieval antiquities at this time, and claimed to have discovered them in the mud of the Thames foreshore. Philip Mernick has produced an excellent article on these pieces, where you can see an identical condition and a good size, measuring 3 3/4 inches diameter. Hard to find them these days and SOLD WITH .
