To add to the uniqueness of these: Printed on the lower left is \"C.F. GUNTHER / CONFECTIONER / CHICAGO\" Charles F. Gunther was certainly one of the most unique characters, said to have brought Caramel to the United States, and whose amassed collection of historical artifacts became the basis for the Chicago HIstorical Society.
FROM THE WEB:

Charles Frederick Gunther (1837-1920) wasa German-American confectioner and collector. He purchased many of the itemsnow owned by the Chicago History Museum.Gunther and his family moved from Württemberg to Pennsylvania in 1842,then resettled in Peru, Illinois.

In1860, Gunther traveled south and landed a job with an ice distributor based inMemphis, Tennessee. During the lateryears of the Civil War, he worked as a traveling salesman for a Chicago candymanufacturer, mainly selling goods throughout the southern states.

Hewent to Europe to study candy making and started his own candy company inChicago in 1868, specializing in caramel, which he is sometimes credited withintroducing to the United States. Gunther\'s business was destroyed in the 1871Great Chicago Fire, but he quickly recovered and built a new factory on StateStreet.

Withwealthy customers like socialite Bertha Palmer, Gunther amassed a fortune andbegan purchasing historical artifacts to display in his factory. Many of thesewere artifacts from the Civil War, but there were also more unusual items inhis collection, such as shrunken heads. One of Gunther\'s most importantauthentic items was Abraham Lincoln\'s deathbed, which he purchased in1877.

Gunther\'scollection continued to grow, and he eventually turned his sights to the LibbyPrison, a former Confederate prison in Richmond, Virginia. Gunther purchasedthe structure and had it dismantled and shipped to Chicago, where it wasreassembled and converted into a museum to house Gunther\'s artifacts. It openedto the public in 1889 and hosted thousands of visitors within its first fewmonths of existence. The infirmary of the prison was converted into the LincolnRoom, in which Gunther displayed Lincoln\'s deathbed, along with other artifactsassociated with Lincoln\'s assassination. Guntherlater tried to purchase an Egyptian pyramid and Philadelphia\'s IndependenceHall so he could bring them to Chicago, but he was unsuccessful.

Duringthe 1890s, Gunther became involved with Chicago\'s growing convention industry. When the original Chicago Coliseum burned down in 1897, Gunther decided tobuild a new Coliseum on the site of the Libby Prison, since attendance at themuseum was beginning to wane. The prison building was disassembled, and partsof it were donated to the Chicago Historical Society. Gunther offered the restof his collection to the city, with the hope that the city would build a museumfor it in Garfield Park, but Illinois law prevented such a building from beingconstructed on parkland.

AfterGunther\'s death in 1920, the Chicago Historical Society paid $150,000 for the bulkof Gunther\'s collection, which by that point also included the table on whichRobert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House. Shortly afterwards, the society began buildinga $1 million museum to display its expanded collection. The building opened in1932 at Clark Street and North Avenue, and is currently known as the ChicagoHistory Museum.

Oneof the objects purchased by (and still owned by) the Chicago Historical Societywas Gunther\'s alleged \"skin of the serpent\" from the Garden of Eden.Though the skin may be that of a real anaconda or python, the museum staffassumes it did not come from the Garden of Eden, since the hieroglyphicmarkings in its frame are merely gibberish.

General itis not unusual for sterling charms to be unmarked from this era: many charmscame unmarked on display sales cards that had the maker and metal info; as wellas jewelry items under a certain weight did not have to be hallmarked.
FYI: Rhodium is in the Platinum family of metals.
It was often used in the 50s-70s to plate sterling silver to avoid tarnishing,
In the Rhodium plating process, 925 Sterling Silver is given a nickel underplate prior to Rhodium plating. The nickel is magnetic and causes the magnetic attraction.FYI: Sterling 925 or Euro Silver 800, 835, 900 - vintage European silver is highly collectible.

PLEASENOTE: Any clothing /shoes/accessories we list are helping us to clean out our closets and boxes of stored goods from a friend’s boutique that went out of business. We sell as-is with no returns. We are retired and moving things forward before we “move forward” to our “next destination!!” For all clothing/wearables we sell - new and especiallyused - we check for holes, tears, wear, spots, or any other imperfections before we list.

Whethernew or used, we have made every attempt to note any flaws in our sales, but may miss something due to aging eyes and/or sheer ignorance about a particular item.

Weask you to understand that even if we missed something in the description, you are still getting a BARGAIN compared to buying retail, so YOU may need to have the item cleaned, shaped, restored, get a buttonreplaced, stitch where threads have come loose, whatever...

Manyare just simply wrinkled from storage... Many can be worn as they are, but would benefit from a pressing or cleaning at winner\'s discretion -- especially worn garments, or even if clothing in new \"store\" condition, New Old Stock, because they were oncehanging on racks, handled by shoppers, dumped in carts, possibly dropped, certainly tried on, and often have adingy look from dust and light soiling from handling, orevidence of being in storage.

THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING, LOOKING, & IF YOU PURCHASE --- WEAR/USE IN GOOD HEALTH!!!
