An exceptional, antique early Georgian English sterling silver sauceboat made by Robert Garrard II.This large and impressive antique, sterling silver sauceboat has an oval rounded plain shaped form, supported by three cast scalloped feet. The shaped border of this fine example of Georgian silverware is ornamented with fine and impressive applied gadroon decoration to the rim. The sauceboat is fitted with a heavy cast opposing floral scroll handle. There is a contemporary engraving above the front leg showing the Most Honourable Order of the Bath - depicting two laurel branches and a figure holding a sword and a shield to the middle, surrounded by the motto TRIA IUNCTA IN UNO (Latin for \"Three joined in one\"). Beneath a scroll bearing the words ICH DIEN (older German for \"I serve\") and the Maltese cross.
We have caused an investigation to be made for the engraving to track down who the first owner was.
