Cast Iron Bookends
This vintage pair of 1920\'s era, cast iron Art Nouveau style bookends features a dark haired woman in a painted dress and white blouse, craning up her neck to a spout to drink from the the mouth of a Lion fountain, draining into a larger basin on a fluted pedestal, with the whole surrounded by green vines. Likely manufactured circa late 1920\'s to early 1930\'s, these classic Art Nouveau style bookends are most tastefully presented, and would make a marvelous addition to your home or office library.
The bookends themselves measure approximately 5.5\" tall, by 4.5\" wide, and 2.5\" deep, and at present only one bookend has a felt pad attached to its metal bottom. Lacking specific information regarding the manufacturer, these remain essentially heavy, poured iron casts, with an aged patina of bronzed and and painted highlights enhancing the finer details. Gilding and paint somewhat rubbed and worn in areas, with light pitting and scratches along a some surfaces, yet still holding up well along the edges and upon the highlighted features. Generally showing minor wear, but also having a wonderfully aged patina that would add charm to any shelf upon which they rested. Overall a really nice pair, and generally in good condition.
