Margaret Mary made a vow at age 14 to dedicate her life to the Virgin Mary. As a simple Marian nun, she was subjected to many trials to prove the genuineness of her vocation and hervisions of Jesus and Maryrelating to theSacred Heart. She was initially rebuffed by her mother superior and was unable to convince theologians of the validity of her visions. A noted exception was SaintClaude de la Colombière, who supported her. The devotion to theSacred Heartwas officially recognized 75 years after Alacoque\'s death.In his encyclicalMiserentissimus Redemptor,Pope Pius XIstated that Jesus Christ had \"manifested Himself\" to Saint Margaret and referred to the conversation between Jesus and Saint Margaret several times.
